The Experimental Wind Farm of Trento was initiated due to the collaboration of the University of Trento,
the Provincial Agency for Energy (APE) and Interbrennero S.p.A.. The
objective is to create a reference in the research of wind energy
employment in Italy and Europe.
The experimental wind farm provides the necessary equipment for the
analysis and comparison of structural and functional characteristics of
mini and micro wind turbines. Particularly, the possibility of extensive
usage of these kind of turbines, as well as their technical and
“economical” efficiency, environmental and acoustic impact and
logistic-infrastructural requirements for installation and removal, are
assessed.
Motivations
The D.L. n. 187/2003 recently introduced the net-metering system to the wind resource exploitation, allowing electrical
energy exchange between the wind farm and the grid, to which incentivizing
tariffs apply, settled by the Electrical Energy and Gas Authority (AEEG). This
is going to contribute to the development of the diffused electrical energy
generation, operated by private citizens through small wind turbines.
Since in the future an increasing amount of small wind energy installations
(with rated power of about 20kW) for domestic and rural use is going to be
connected to the low voltage grid, a research project has been set up to
monitor the efficiency of technological solutions commonly used for such
wind turbines.
Supporters
We would like to thank all those who contributed to the project and
realization of the experimental wind farm, particularly the sponsors:
